Wood in exhibition construction: Natural, sustainable, emotionally effective!
Georg Trengler has always been fascinated by wood. As an experienced architect at MSM, he gives brand identities a warm, authentic touch through the targeted use of this unique material. His love for materials began at a young age: Even before he studied interior design, he completed an apprenticeship as a carpenter. “Wood has a soul,” he says. “It gives every room a special atmosphere.”
Editor: Georg, what fascinates you about wood?
Georg Trengler: A simple question deserves an almost philosophical answer: Wood is a gift from nature. It grows out of our planet, gives us good air, shade, joy and relaxation. And when the tree is at the end of its life cycle, it gives us its wood — a material that is pleasant, durable and versatile. Wood has been used as a building and construction material for thousands of years. Its sustainable availability and positive qualities make it an indispensable element in architecture. Just fantastic, isn't it?
Editor: What is the best way to use wood on an exhibition stand? What effect does this have?
Georg Trengler: Holz is a popular figure. People are familiar with it — thanks to its grain, structure and warm feel, it appeals to the senses. In addition, wood has temperature and humidity-regulating properties and thus improves the indoor climate. Wood creates a pleasant atmosphere, especially at exhibition stands, where cool and sterile materials often dominate. Subtle, sparingly used elements such as wooden furniture or real wood surfaces can make a stand look more inviting and of higher quality. It is about setting specific accents in order to give visitors a positive, natural sense of space.
Editor: As a modern exhibition construction company, how should you integrate wood into stand construction? Does sustainability play a role in this?
Georg Trengler: In practice, we often work with panel materials such as decorative chipboard — i.e. wood decor. Nevertheless, there is a clear trend towards the integration of real wood and solid wood, which is increasingly in demand by customers. There are not only aesthetic reasons for this, but also for stustainability reasons. Sustainability plays a central role: As an ISO-certified exhibition construction company, we have set ourselves the goal of using materials in a resource-saving manner. Wood products are no exception — quite the opposite. Real wood is far too valuable to simply dispose of after a trade fair. Instead, we focus on reuse and recycling to make the cycle as environmentally friendly as possible.
